The leisure activities that take place near the coast have a significant impact on underwater life and, each time, degrade the Catalan and Mediterranean coast as a whole. To deal with this, marine fauna regeneration initiatives are emerging. Some of them have been presented in this new Naut-EC project training session.
The session began with a presentation of the Naut-EC project and the potential of the circular economy in the nautical sector, by Ariadna Benet, from the Mataró TecnoCampus. Benet has emphasized that port activities can be transformed to be respectful of biodiversity.
Next, different projects were presented that work to promote the biodiversity of the ports. Eugeni Figa, on behalf of ACPET (Catalan Association of Sports and Tourist Ports), has presented the guide to coves and ports on the Costa Brava, which includes advice and proposals to encourage responsible navigation. He has also presented an energy transition project for port facilities and pleasure boats.
Then, Pau Guasch from SEABOATS, explained the company's proposal for the design and creation of marine robots for the exploration and conservation of the seabed, a way that helps reduce cost, human risk and impact on the environment.
For his part, Maxime Ruiz, of RESCUE OCEAN BARCELONA, has presented his social initiative of waste collection on the coast of Barcelona and other beaches in the state. The initiative is completed with school educational projects and awareness campaigns.
In turn, Eric Bourguignon, from ECOCEAN, has announced his project to preserve the marine fauna of the coasts. Its objective is to act in shallow areas where there is nautical practice. They have created sea cages where baby fish can survive predators and thus grow species.
Paolo Tendone, from CONCRETE, has also presented his proposal for blue concrete. The Italian company has created an environmentally friendly concrete that helps develop marine fauna in ports. The aim is to transform the gray structures where marine fauna and flora are not created into blue infrastructures where there is life.
Finally, Ignasi Ferrer, from OCEAN ECOSTRUCTURES, explained how they work to develop marine regeneration technology on human infrastructures at sea and provide solutions that compensate for the action of these by encouraging marine fauna and flora.
