On July 16th, the Barceloneta neighborhood experienced a moving day in celebration of the traditional Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patron saint of seafarers. The event began at 5:00 p.m. with a procession from the Church of Saint Michael, which made its way through the streets to the Fishermen’s Wharf.
The maritime procession sailed through the various docks of the Port of Barcelona, with a participatory fleet that included small fishing boats, yachts, and support vessels. The event was led by the Barceloneta Fishermen’s Guild, accompanied by the Navy, the Port Authority, and the NGO Stella Maris.
The procession concluded with an open-air mass on the wharf, held atop fishermen’s nets, where floral offerings were made, and tribute was paid to the patroness of the sea.
Residents, fishermen, authorities, and the general public came together for this celebration—a day that blends devotion, tradition, and the sea, reaffirming the deeply rooted maritime spirit of Barceloneta, true to the legend that honors Our Lady of Mount Carmel as the protector of sailors.
