Clàudia Parera, Director of Barcelona Clúster Nàutic, took part in the ‘Blue Economy Cycle: Connect with Companies!’ session, organised by Barcelona Activa, together with Blanca Guinea from Hutchison Ports and Maite Palat Gubert from Mercabarna.
The event focused on the professional opportunities offered by the blue economy and on the importance of connecting talent with companies in order to showcase the sector’s reality, needs and the different professional profiles it requires.
During the session, Clàudia Parera shared Barcelona Clúster Nàutic’s vision and experience, highlighting the need to attract and develop diverse and qualified talent in order to continue driving the evolution of Barcelona’s maritime and nautical ecosystem.
The discussion highlighted the fact that the blue economy requires a wide range of professional profiles and that entering professions linked to the sector does not necessarily require previous sector-specific experience. Skills acquired in other fields can provide a strong foundation for moving into new areas, complemented by specialised training.
In this regard, initiatives such as sector-specific reskilling, professional certificates, Dual Vocational Education and Training (Dual VET) and work placements are important pathways for facilitating the incorporation of new talent and helping professionals gain relevant experience and sector-specific knowledge.
The role of companies in this process was also highlighted, particularly when it comes to providing new employees with training in the sector-specific knowledge they need. When considering a new professional opportunity, it is essential to identify what each person can contribute from the outset and which skills or areas of knowledge they still need to develop.
