On July 16, the Barceloneta neighborhood experienced an emotional day in honor of the traditional Feast of the Virgin of Carmen, patroness of seafarers. The event began at 5:00 p.m. with a procession from the Church of Saint Michael, which traveled through the streets to the Fishermen’s Dock.
The maritime procession navigated the various docks of the Port of Barcelona, with a participating fleet including small fishing boats, yachts, and support vessels. The event was presided over by the Barceloneta Fishermen’s Guild, accompanied by the Navy, the Port Authority, and the NGO Stella Maris.
The procession culminated with an outdoor mass held on the dock over the fishermen’s nets, where floral offerings were made and tribute paid to the patroness of the sea.
Neighbors, fishermen, authorities, and the general public joined this celebration, a day combining devotion, tradition, and the sea, reaffirming Barceloneta’s deeply maritime roots, faithful to the legend of the Virgin of Carmen as protector of seafarers.
