Barcelona Clúster Nàutic participated in the international meeting of the European project Youth4CliMed (Climate Change Awareness in the Mediterranean from a Youth Perspective), held at Universitat CEU Abat Oliba. The initiative aims to raise awareness among young people about the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean and encourage their involvement in protecting the marine environment.
Over three days, project members gathered on the university campus to share progress, discuss new lines of work, and strengthen international collaboration around sustainability and the preservation of the Mediterranean. The meeting at CEU UAO was coordinated by Dr. Carmen Parra, Dr. Olga Lasaga, and Dr. Jesús López, faculty members representing the university in this European project.
The programme included several working sessions, presentations on the project’s progress, and collaborative activities among partners. On the final day, a roundtable discussion held at the university brought together experts from the Mediterranean maritime and logistics sectors, including representatives from Barcelona Clúster Nàutic, Barcelona Activa, the Guardia Civil of the Port of Barcelona, the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport, and the UNESCO Chair Devenirs in the Mediterranean.
Participants also took part in institutional visits to the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Barcelona Maritime Museum, providing further context to discussions on the Mediterranean from perspectives of regional cooperation, sustainability, and maritime heritage.
The Youth4CliMed project, coordinated by DEHUKAM (Ankara University National Center for the Sea and Maritime Law) and funded by the Erasmus+ programme, brings together institutions from Turkey, Italy, Croatia, and Spain with the aim of promoting sustainable solutions for the Mediterranean and increasing youth engagement in the fight against climate change.
