The Barcelona Clúster Nàutic has participated in the constitutive session of the BlueNetCat Steering Council, a key milestone for the future of this network aimed at promoting the blue economy in Catalonia.

The meeting, held in the Sala del Llac at the Rectorate of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), brought together representatives from the 15 public institutions contributing research groups and the 4 private sector members that are part of the network, thereby consolidating BlueNetCat’s governance structure.

The Barcelona Clúster Nàutic is part of both the Steering Council and the Executive Council of BlueNetCat, reaffirming its active commitment to defining the network’s strategic lines and promoting collaboration between academia, institutions, and the business sector.

During the session, the incorporation of the private sector was particularly highlighted as a significant step forward in strengthening the focus on the real applicability of solutions, bringing research closer to market and societal needs. Likewise, the strong strategic alignment among all members was emphasised, consolidating a shared vision and strengthening the network’s impact capacity.

Another key aspect highlighted was the clearly multidisciplinary nature of BlueNetCat, which integrates scientific, technological, and socio-economic knowledge to comprehensively address the major challenges and opportunities of the blue economy.

The event also featured institutional participation from the Government of Catalonia, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, as well as the UB Chair in Sustainable Blue Economy, reinforcing the connection between research, public policy, and territorial impact.

The Barcelona Clúster Nàutic highly values this important step forward in consolidating BlueNetCat as a strategic network for the development of the blue economy ecosystem in Catalonia.
